Guess who's back? Back again. No it's not Eminem, just Em - getting back into the blogging saddle after far too long away! I've been very busy since my last post and have lots to tell you about, though i won't bore you with work and the everyday things that get in the way of fun. Towards the end of last year I had a 'glut' of gigs (they are a bit like buses and always seem to come all at once) Ed Sheeran, Tinie Tempah, Bev, Friendly Fires. I'll review these in due course, better late than never I always say.
I'm also pleased to say that I've managed to fill the musical void left by my outgrowing of Radio 1 and unwillingness to listen to the same radio station as my Dad (Radio 2). Working on your own can get a bit boring at times and a lack of colleagues can make you feel like a bit of a Billy no mates, but 6 Music has come to the rescue. It's like my new best friend (cringe), introducing me to all sorts of exciting new music and having the same taste in 'old' stuff as me, it's a beautiful thing - like being wooed by some random with a ukulele on a train platform. Though I'm sure mine and 6 Music's relationship will last longer as it's not based on superficial things like nice hair and great skin!
Joking aside it is the perfect stepping stone for people of a certain age (mid 30's - ouch!) who used to listen to Radio 1 but have found or am beginning to find it a bit 'too young'. Now I'm not slagging off Radio 1, I've always loved and listened to it and they're evening and weekend schedules have some great DJ's and shows, Sarah Cox, Annie Mac, Zane Lowe etc. But I don't listen to the radio at those times, for me the radio has always been my working soundtrack, 7 to 5, Monday to Friday. And though I can happily fill those hours with my extensive CD collection I'd begun to feel like not having the radio on I was losing touch with music, something that's always been a passion. My 3 year old nephew knew more chart songs than me! But happily one of my 'remote colleagues' recommended 6 Music and my working days are once more filled with music and laughter - I may have to make myself a new choon board!
And so here's a great song to break my silence, so to speak. It's rather appropriate as not only is it a choon of mine at the moment, dirty beats + cracking vocals = turn me up loud! It is also by SBTRKT, an artist who highlighted my 'out of touchiness'. Last year he was supporting Friendly Fires, who I was going to see with a trendy young thing and when asked if I knew who was supporting replied "someone with a load of letters for a name, S B something?" I was promptly informed it was "subtract" much to my boyfriends amusement!! How was I to know! I'm glad to say I am now very familiar with Mr. Subtracts work and album and for me this my favourite song (at the moment, I'm very fickle when it comes to favourites, like Bruce). Enjoy.
