Having decided to buy tickets to this gig on the strength of one song, we knew that we’d be hearing most of the set for the first time. The Junction is a relatively small venue but it had drawn a good crowd and the band were given a warm reception with plenty of encouragement from the throngs of men in the audience who’d clearly heard a girl only band was in town!

Playing songs from their debut album ‘The Fool’, for me the stand out tune was definitely Undertow, probably because that was the one I knew ;-) , which certainly merited the rapturous applause it was given. The vocals were smooth and the harmonies melodic and with a sound that’s reminiscent of the Cocteau Twins, (who I am also a big fan of), the music managed to be both calming and uplifting.

Aside from the last song, which at over 20 minutes turned into a very repetitive jam session and received mixed response, some people loving it, and others who clearly felt like us and wished they’d just wrap it up, this was an enjoyable night. No doubt Warpaint are heading for great things. Rach :)

Thanks to Rach for contributing this review, I owe you a few beers or a bleedin' ichoon t-shirt!! You choose ;)
