Better late than never, Thursday night was a good night. It was a late one for a 'school night' we stayed up way past our bedtime, but it was well worth it and thankfully on our return to the car it was still a car and not a pumpkin, phew! Jack Peñate is such a great entertainer, first and foremost he's a brilliant singer and musician, but he certainly knows how to keep a crowd happy.

The gig was at The Rainbow Warehouse in Digbeth, I've never been to this venue before but really liked it - a break from the dingy darkness and sticky carpets of places like the Academy. The RW is basically a rather tatty warehouse with a bar, loo's and a stage but what more do you need for a gig? The walls are adorned with cool murals and graffiti type illustrations and like the lovely old pub it sits behind (The Rainbow) it has a nice friendly, eclectic feel to it, without being pretentious.

JP looked like he was having a whale of a time and commented on the cool venue, I don't know the capacity (not big) but the more intimate situ made for a special gig. The set was a mix of his first and current albums and the old favourites like Torn On The Platform and Spit At Stars went down very well, as did the new material from his really rather good album Everything Is New which thanks to this nifty album player you can listen to below. There was plenty of his trademark frantic muppet-like dancing, I felt tired just watching!

The encore included a wicked cover of Good Life by Inner City that got everybody dancing and probably made the older members of the audience feel that bit older! And I'd like to say a big thank you to whoever chose the 'warm-up' music that was being played which included a cool mix of a great choon Township Funk by DJ Mujava and a blast from the past of a choon in the shape of the Dobie remix of I Miss You by Björk, one of my all time fav remixes!

All in all a great gig, the different venue made it a bit more exciting - like going to an away game. So in the footy spirit I'd say, 3 points, good entertaining end to end stuff, goals, and a man of the match performance from JP. Take a bow son.

If anyone else was there and would like to add to this please do so, I'd love to hear your opinions. Also if you've got any feedback on the website please get in touch.
