GIG - Take That, 9th June 09, Coventry

First proper post on the new style ichoon.com and I'm starting with a corker - Take That at the Ricoh Arena (whoop!) The tickets were an unexpected surprise, my sis's mate had a couple spare "did we want them?" "Does Gary Barlow write great pop songs?" Yes! We said yes please. It was a bit like finding a golden ticket, everyone has been very jealous these tickets were like gold dust.

Originally missed out of the tour schedule, the Midlands was in uproar that Take That wouldn't be coming to town, a huge communal grumble later and 3 dates in Coventry were added and sold out in record time. The tickets weren't cheap (neither was the beer, parking, merchandise or burgers) but the show was spectacular and worth the extra quids, I'm sure it will live long in a lot of peoples memories.

James Morrison supported and was very good, a supporting cast of acrobats, clowns and other circus folk added to the shows visual 'wow factor' - I won't go into it too much because if you're going to see them it's nice to be surprised. Suffice to say you're in for a treat when the TT Circus comes to town! The band themselves each put in a star turn, their charisma and showmanship has not faded with age (nor has their looks!) and they had the whole stadium eating out of the palms of their hands as they professionally performed hit after hit. I've never liked the circus and clowns give me the creeps so finding a face painted, red nosed Jason Orange attractive was an unexpected and curious experience. It was a musical journey down memory lane, and it gives you goosebumps when everybody is singing along and getting swept up in the moment.

I'm so glad we went, we both had a great night and were truly entertained - will I go out and buy their new album? I don't think so but for me it wasn't about the music it was more about the nostalgia of it all. I'll probably dust off my old TT albums and give them an airing over the next few days. I'll have a warm and fuzzy moment when I remember seeing them live years ago, my school disco's and college parties the soundtrack of which includes many of Take That's hits. You can't really call them comeback kings, because for most of us they've never really been away!
