Yer Old!

A whole month between posts, I hang my head in shame. I honestly don't know where people find the time to tweet and blog and be so damn social! Anyway I've been very busy with work and now with Christmas looming and all the "hecticness" (new word) that December brings I can't see my blog per week, month, year ratio improving!

I have been to two musical events within a week though - ooh get me! Gigs are very much like buses - sweaty and overcrowded (and they tend to come along all at once). So there was Annie Mac Presents at the Institute in Birmingham last Saturday and Reef at the Wulfren in Wolverhampton this Friday, both of which were great nights but in very different ways.

First off Annie Mac. I'm a bit of a 'Billy' when it comes to dance music, not many of my friends like it as much as I do and those that do don't live nearby. But I have Natty who shares my taste in music, give or take a few artists, who I know I can always count on to be my gig buddy or in this case clubbing buddy. We decided that though neither of us had been 'proper' clubbing for years we would dust off our dancing shoes and pay a visit to one of our old haunts "it will be just like old times" was my foolish mantra. This night had disaster, well maybe disappointment written all over it.

Tickets bought, hotel booked, plans planned - we were good to go, Nat coming down with a chest infection was not part of the plan. My subs bench was pretty much non existent and the chances of finding someone else who was a. free on a Saturday night b. would enjoy this kind of music c. had a bit of spare cash near to Christmas and d. was silly enough to brave the snow and sub zero temperatures well, my odds weren't good!

My knight in shining armour was Jez my boyfriend who bless him agreed to come along despite hating dance music and all things clubby. The night was a game of two halves, first half was us being quite at home drinking mulled cider and strong beer in a nice cosy Real Ale pub in town. The second half was us feeling awkward and sticking out like sore thumbs at the Institute as clearly the oldest people there!

"It will be just like old times" proved to be a foolish prediction on my part, I think I can safely say my clubbing days are over. Maybe if I'd been there with Nat it would have been a different story and we'd have had a great time. But I think that part of the night was doomed (no offence Jez) because I was always going to be feeling awkward about dragging Jez that far out of his comfort zone and not able to relax and enjoy it.

Big shame. That said we still had a really good night and a right laugh at ourselves and the 'youngsters' who kept us amused for a couple of hours with their youthful enthusiasm for pointing in the air lots and endlessly filming each other on their phones instead of actually dancing? At least it was warm in there, us old uns feel the cold at our age ;) And the hotel was lovely, thanks Nat x

I'll review Reef tomorrow that's a lot of writing for me!

Wow, has that 'review' (in the loosest sense!) knocked your socks off? There's plenty more where that came from, browse our articles by genre...
